Laurens County Board of Education Gifted and Talented

Mission
Our mission is to provide gifted education services that are tailored to the intellectual, academic, creative, social, emotional, and motivational needs of the gifted.

Rationale
In agreement with the Georgia Board of Education's philosophy and in accordance with Laurens County's mission to "rigor, relevance and relationships” Laurens County understands that gifted and talented students require an advanced curriculum. Gifted & Talented Education (GTE) recognizes and provided for the needs of gifted and talented students by offering opportunities for differentiated instruction designed to accelerate, enrich and extend their learning experiences. Learning is enhanced through the use of materials, tasks and experiences differentiated in content, process and
product.

Belief Statements
* To provide an environment that will cultivate and encourage intellectual and
creative abilities;
* To provide students with instruction in the regular curriculum with appropriate
enrichment and acceleration according to the students’ interests, readiness, and learning styles;
* To provide the opportunity, structure, and expectation that will increasingly
encourage constructive independence and self-sufficiency.
* To develop research skills and strategies to enable students to become more independent searchers of knowledge.
