Accelerated Reader

ACCELERATED READER

Each nine weeks, the students are evaluated and a goal is set for them. This is decided by the student’s reading abilities based on the STAR test which determines each student’s reading level. The goal then is how many points each child should earn per nine weeks based on his/her individual results. By using this method, all students can feel they have accomplished and earned recognition no matter what level reader he/she is at that time.

Students will earn recognition (determined by the AR Committee) based on achieving their goal while maintaining an 85 average. This is required for each nine weeks as well as the end of the semester events. At the end of the year, students who have  met their goal every grading period with a minimum of an 85 average or have earned100 points with an 85 average for every nine weeks will be recognized with a certificate at Honors Day.

Individual teachers will post points outside their door if they desire although it is not required. Please encourage your student to reach his goal and not worry about points. If he/she reaches his/her goal, then the points will come. Our mission is to make good, strong readers who have developed fluency and comprehension skills that will follow them throughout life.

Thank you,

ELP AR Committee
