OUR CONTENT

We will study Europe, Canada, Latin America, and Australia; with the majority of our focus on Europe and Latin America. Canada and Australia are included because of their historical ties to European nations as well as their continued economic and political affilations with those same countries. The goal of this course is to acquaint middle school students with the world in which they live. The geography domain includes both physical and political geography. The intent of the geography domain is for students to begin to grasp the importance geography plays in their everyday lives. The government/civics domain focuses on selected types of government found in the various areas in order to help students begin to understand the variety of government systems in the world. The economics domain builds on the K-5 economics; however, the focus shifts from the United States to how other countries answer the basic questions of economics. The history domain focuses primarily on significant events in each region from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

Geography is the study of Earth's landscape, people (inhabitants), places, and environments.

Economics is the study of the wealth and resources of a region in terms of the consumption of goods ans services.

Government is the study of who decides the way the area will be controlled.

History is the study of how events develop and change human affairs over time.
