“If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” Ignacio Estrada
Welcome! My name is Casey Dunn, an eighth grade science teacher at WLMS. I am very excited to start my sixth year of teaching at West Laurens Middle School. I have been a lifelong resident of Laurens County and I'm honored to be able to give back to my community. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Special Education as well as acquiring certification in Middle Grade Mathematics and Science from Middle Georgia College. Since then, I have earned my Masters of Education from Kennesaw State University in Instructional Technology. Currently, I am enrolled in Kennesaw State University's Specialist of Education degree program in Curriculum and Instruction.
Ever since I was a young child I have dreamed of becoming a teacher. Most kids have an imaginary friend, but I had an imaginary class full of students. My desire to be teacher is fueled by a mother who was a teacher for over thirty-five years. I saw how she was positively affected the lives of so many people. From that focus emerged what I consider to be my greatest strength, a single-minded dedication to help students get from wherever they are to where they need to be. Every day, children around the world are being told that they aren't good enough, or that they just "can't." As a teacher, I feel, I have a positive platform from which to dispel that fallacy. I realize that teaching is a profession that can be extremely exhausting, but I know in my heart that the benefits outweigh the fatigue ten times over. Teaching requires patience, understanding, compassion, and enthusiasm- all things that I am more than willing to provide on a daily basis. I am very enthusiastic about the journey this year has before us.
I am newly married to my husband, Micah Dunn. We currently attend Greenlawn Baptist Church in Eastman where Micah's dad is the pastor. In our spare time, we raise and show rabbits. We raise Holland Lops and Mini Rex. We enjoy traveling the nation showing our rabbits. We have two Labrador dogs, Jasey and Lady, a spoiled Boxer named Duke, and two bobtail cats, Rebie and Cedar. We also have chickens and two peacocks, Azul and Jackie.
I am also very proud to be the West Laurens Middle School Cross Country Coach. I have truly fell in love with coaching. I enjoy working with my students outside the classroom while pushing them to their limits. It is so exciting to see my runners meet their goals or set their new personal best.
