Georgia Parent Survey

The Georgia Parent Survey is available and will be open until March 1, 2019. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Report cards will be sent home on Tuesday, October 23, 2018.

School is Open

All schools now have all utilities restored and we will resume normal operating hours on Monday, October 15. 

School Closed on Friday

As a result of Hurricane Michael, Laurens County has suffered widespread damage including broken power poles, power lines and trees down blocking roadways, and the loss of power for more than 80% of our county.  Therefore, the Laurens County School System will be CLOSED on Friday, October 12, 2018.

Early Dismissal on Wednesday

Administrators with Laurens County Schools have just been provided the most recent weather updates from EMA and Homeland Security.  Severe winds and storms are anticipated to arrive in our area by 2:00 PM tomorrow, October 10. Therefore, the Laurens County School System will dismiss at 12 o’clock NOON on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. 

School Closed on Thursday

Governor Deal has issued an emergency declaration for 92 counties in Georgia, including Laurens County.  We have been closely monitoring this storm over the past 12 hours as central Georgia is in the direct path of Hurricane Michael with the eye of the storm scheduled to cross Dublin, GA early Thursday morning.  Therefore, the Laurens County School System will be CLOSED on Thursday, October 11, 2018.  We will continue to monitor the storm and any conditions that may impact school on Friday.

ELMS 2018-2019 REACH Scholars REACH Scolars

Congratulations to Nidreka Powell, Caden Palmer, and Joshua Mullis for being selected as REACH scholars for East Laurens Middle School! The REACH scholarship comes with a school-based mentor and academic coach for 8th-12th grade. Students are required to maintain regular attendance, appropriate behavior, and a minimum grade point average. Following graduation, if these students have met all requirements as outlined, they will be awarded $10,000 for post-secondary education.

ELMS Back to School Bash on September 14 backtoschoolbash

The East Laurens Middle School PTO will be hosting a Back to School Bash on Friday, September 14 right after school. There will be dancing, music, a photo booth, and games in the House of Gold immediately after the buses leave campus. Parent pick-up is at 7pm. The cost per student is $5. Tickets can be purchased in their homerooms or at the door, Concessions will be available.

HB251 Laurens County School-to-School Transfer Requests

The Laurens County Board of Education, in compliance with House Bill 251 (HB251), has developed a process giving Laurens County parents/guardians the option to request that their children attend any Laurens County school, within the school system, based on space availability.  Information pertaining to the Laurens County School-to-School Transfer Request option is posted to the system web site, www.lcboe.net, and will include the implementation procedures, a preliminary list of schools, with available classroom space, and an application to request a transfer.  The FY19 application deadline is July 27, 2018.  For further information, please review the information listed under parent resourses top tab, posted to the Laurens County Board of Education website, or contact Mr. Kelland Waldrep at kellandwaldrep@lcboe.net or 478-272-4767.

HOPE REACH Scholarship

ATTENTION ALL BUSINESS PARTNERS. We are looking for area businesses to support the HOPE REACH Scholarship for the 2018-2019 school year. Each year, Laurens County can select up to three upcoming 8th graders to receive this honor. The school system is responsible for raising $1500 of the scholarship per student through partnerships with local businesses.The state will fund the remaining $8500 per student. In order for the student to receive the scholarship to pursue post-secondary options upon graduation, he/she must maintain acceptable grades, attendance, and behavior. If you are interested in helping us grow tomorrow's leaders, please complete the form and return by June 30, 2018. As always, thanks for your support.

FY 18 Parent and Family Engagement Survey

Laurens County Schools are continually looking to improve ways to engage parents in our programs and schools. Students Return to School on Thursday

Laurens County Schools will resume normal operations on Thursday, January 4, 2018.

Schools Closed on Wednesday

Due to the impending inclement weather, the Laurens County School System will be closed for students on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.   Staff should plan on reporting at 10:00 AM.  However, each employee must use good judgement and exercise the highest level of caution when attempting to drive in questionable weather conditions.  We will continue to monitor the situation throughout the night and into the morning and will let you know if any additional changes are needed regarding tomorrow’s workday or Thursday’s schedule.

Parents, the State of Georgia End of Grade Growth Score reports should have come home with your student on November 9, 2017. Students in grades 5-9 should have received this report. Combat Bullying Tour of Schools

In observance of Bullying Prevention and Awareness Month, Laurens County schoos is hosting “The Combat Bullying Tour” featuring Mr. Willie Raines, of Reclaiming Ground Inc. To forward his message of bullying prevention and awareness, he uses feats of strength to promote a strong and inspiring message of unity in our community against bullying. Please join us on Tuesday, October 17, at 6:00 PM at the Old West Laurens Gym as we come together as a community to combat bullying in our schools. All community members are encouraged to attend this event.

Laurens County Schools in Dublin, Ga, will resume normal operations on Friday, Sept 15, 2017. All students and staff should report to school and work per their usual times.

School Closings (9/14/17) - Hurricane Irma

Laurens County Schools in Dublin, GA, will be closed for students and staff on Thursday, September 14, 2017.  As of noon today, many of our faculty, staff, and students' families remain without power to their homes; additionally, two of our schools remain open as Red Cross Evacuation Shelters.  

We expect that as Hurricane Irma evacuees are relocated from our schools later today, we will begin the dismantling and cleaning of our facilities so that we can resume normal operations as soon as possible. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.

School Closings (9/13/17) - Hurricane Irma

Due to widespread power outages and damage from Hurricane Irma, as well as delays in the evacuation of our emergency shelters, Laurens County Schools in Dublin, GA will be closed on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. No students or staff should report to school or work.

School Closings - Hurricane Irma

Laurens County Schools in Dublin, Georgia, will be closed on Monday, September 11, 2017, and Tuesday, September 12, 2017, due to the approach of Hurricane Irma. Our four schools that serve as American Red Cross EVACUATION Centers are scheduled to be opened as evacuation shelters under the direction of the Red Cross and other state officials.

 

No students or staff should report to school or work; anyone who wishes to volunteer at a shelter should report to the Red Cross personnel at that facility.

New Traffic Routing

Parents and Staff: Eastside car rider traffic will enter and exit the campus from Ernest Stinson Road. There is a new 3 lane road coming into the car rider area. There are also 2 parking lots, a new canopy that connects the schools, and additional turning lanes. Please allow yourselves plenty of time, be aware of the new direction signage, and watch your speed in this new area. The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office is providing a resource officer and monitoring traffic. Thanks for your cooperation

The Laurens County School Systems announces our Spring assessment calendar for the End of Grade Milestone Assessment. The Georgia End of Grade Assessment for grades 3-8 will be held in Laurens County on April 17th - April 25th. This year ALL grades will be assessed in English Language Arts and Math. Only fifth and eighth grade will be assessed in Science and Social Studies. Below you will find some links that will provide you with great resources for helping prepare your student for the EOG.

Evacuation Shelters

In cooperation with the Red Cross, the following Laurens County Schools have been deemed emergency evacuation shelters: East Laurens High School, East Laurens Middle School, East Laurens Elementary School, West Laurens High School, and West Laurens Middle School. The sites will open as shelters at 4:00 pm on Thursday, October 6, 2016.
 
Friday, October 7th is a teacher workday. Faculty and staff should report at 8:00 am. Unless under the direct supervision of a school employee, there should be no students on the campuses of these facilities.

The homecoming football game at West Laurens High School will be played as scheduled.
 
Also, please be reminded that Monday, October 10, 2016, is a staff and student holiday. We expect school to resume on Tuesday, October 11, 2016.
 
Thank you for your cooperation as we provide assistance to those who are under evacuation orders.

Buddy Ball Rescheduled

The Middle Georgia Buddy Ball event originally scheduled for Saturday, October 8, 2016 has been rescheduled. The event will now be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Southern Pines.

School Cancellation

Laurens County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Friday, September 2. The East Laurens High School football game will be held on Saturday at 12:00 noon at Montgomery County. At this time, the West Laurens High School football game is still scheduled for Friday at 7:30 at West Laurens. Please check the Laurens County Schools Facebook page or website for the latest updates.

Centralized Registration Center

As of September 6, 2016, the Laurens County School System will open our centralized registration center at the O.W.L. (Old West Laurens High School) at 338 West Laurens School Road. Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

ELMS Hosts Annual Title I Spring Parent Involvement Planning Session

Please make plans to come eat lunch with your student on:

  • Tuesday, April 12 at 12:20pm: 6th Grade or 7th Grade (Kight, Graham, & Rogers Homeroom only)

Following lunch, there will be a brief informational meeting to discuss the upcoming Georgia Milestones Assessment. We will also briefly discuss ELMS's performance over the last school year and take suggestions for next year's Title I program. Due to rain and thunderstorms forecasted for Friday, the local Special Olympics events have been cancelled.

The following members of the ELMS FLBA placed in the top 10 in state in their online testing or skills events: Austin Johnson 9th place Keyboarding Applications, Shauna Moore 8th Place Business Computations,  Zarria Battle 6th place Impromptu Speaking and Kristen Hubbard 1st place Desktop Publishing, Kristen also received national recognition for placing 1st in her skills event category!

Makeup Flu Clinics

The Laurens County Health Department will be conducting makeup flu clinics for students who were absent for the first school flu clinic.  Also during this time, children 8 and under who need a second dose of flu vaccine will be vaccinated if they returned a consent form for a second dose.  A limited supply of flu mist is now available, so if your child was not vaccinated due to a flu mist shortage, they will have an opportunity to receive the flu mist if they have not already been vaccinated. 2015-16 School Flu Campaign

This season we would like to help protect our student body from the flu by providing flu vaccinations during school hours. ELMS FCA Hosting Canned Food Drive

ELMS Honor Days in May

ELMS will host Honor Days for 7th Grade on Wednesday, May 13, 2015; 6th Grade on Thursday, May 14, 2015; and 8th Grade on Friday, May 15, 2015. All Honor Days will start at 8:30am.

ELMS 7th Grade Field Trip

All eligible 7th grade students will be travling to the Flint River Quarium in Albany, GA from 8am to 3pm on Friday, May 1, 2015. The cost is $13 per student due by May 1, 2015. Homeroom teachers will provide more information to all students in the coming weeks.

ELMS 6th Grade Field Trip

All eligible 6th grade students will be travling to the Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences from 8am to 3pm on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. The cost is $5 per student due by May 1, 2015. Homeroom teachers will provide more information to all students in the coming weeks.

ELMS Black And Gold Ball

ELMS will host the Black & Gold ball this Friday, May 1, 2015 in the East Laurens Middle School cafeteria. The cost to attend is $10 and must be received before May 1, 2015. 6th Grade students can buys their tickets from Mrs. Foskey. Seventh Grade students can buy their tickets from Mrs. Kight. 8th Grade Students can buy their tickets from Mrs. Hester. Dress will be Sunday casual. All boys will be required to wear a collared shirt at minimum.

ELMS Hosts Spring Lunch & Learn

More than 100 parents jopined the ELMS faculty and students for our Lunch and Learn activity this week. Parents that attended were able to eat lunch with teir students and attend a brief presentation on the GA Milestones and Career Academy. Thanks to all who attended.

ELMS Regional Science Fair Winners

On Thursday, February 5th, East Laurens Middle/High School took students to compete in the Regional Science Fair competition.  Of the 26 projects East Laurens entered at region, eleven projects brought home 1st place ribbons.  Nine of East Laurens’ projects where selected to represent the twenty-one projects that the region sends to the Georgia State Science Fair held in Athens, GA at the end of March.

Education Summit at LCBOE

Congressman Rick Allen would like to invite parents, teachers, and faculty of all 12th District Schools to join him in a round-table discussion regarding upcoming education legislation. ELMS Hosts Science and Math Night

ELMS will host our Science and Math night on Monday, January 12 at 6:00pm. Please make every effort to attend. All students that attend and visit four sessions with their parent will receive a free homework pass and Wendy's gift card.

8th Grade High School Transition Meeting

ELMS will be hosting a High School Transition meting on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 6:00pm. The purpose of this meeting will be to help 8th grade parents and students understand the transition to high school. Ms. Cammie Dalley, ELHS counselor, will be presenting and students will be given information about course selection for 9th grade classes and pathways. Hope to see you there!

Pick Up Report Cards This Friday!!!

Annual Title I Parent Meeting on Monday at 6:00pm

HGRESA Banquet Rescheduled

Due to the predicted weather conditions, it is necessary for the Heart of Georgia RESA to reschedule the Academic Awards-Serving Learning Collaborative Event that was scheduled for Tuesday, April 29.  The new date is Monday, May 5th at 6:00 PM.  The event location will remain the same - DuBose Porter Building in Dublin.

The community forum at NWLE will be held on Thursday, January 30 at 6:00 P.M.

Schools Closed

Laurens County Schools will be closed for students Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29 due to forecasted wintry mix of snow/sleet/rain. Staff will report to work Tuesday morning.

EAST LAURENS MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE YEAR
The students, faculty, and staff of East Laurens Middle School are pleased to announce that Mr. Paul Conyers is the recipient of the 2013-14 East Laurens Middle School Teacher of the Year Award.  This award is voted on by the faculty.  Mr. Paul Conyers teaches seventh grade at East Laurens Middle School where he has been on the faculty for six years as a teacher and coach.
