Location Change for Saturday's WL-EL Basketball Games

The location for Saturday's West Laurens-East Laurens basketball games has been changed. The games will now be played at the OWL gym at 338 West Laurens School Road, Dublin. Girls varsity game starts at 6:00 with boys varsity to follow.

Cap and Gown Ordering Information

Balfour will be here ONE last time on Feburary 6th. They will be located in the lunchroom from 11:30 til 1:30. The cost is $100 cash or check.

The Wrestling team went undefeated as they captured the Region Dual Championship last Friday at Perry High School. They will compete at the GHSA State Duals Thursday-Saturday at the Macon Coliseum.

2019 Distinguished Young Women Program

Emily Johnson 2018 Future Scholars Winner

Toccoa Falls College: Admissions

Congratulations to our 2018 Future Scholars winner, Emily Johnson! Emily is the daughter of Jeff and Melinda Johnson, and is a senior at West Laurens High School. Emily is a high achieving woman with a heart to serve in any capacity she can. She currently serves as the Dudley Baptist prayer breakfast leader for middle school girls, she is co-captain of FCA, secretary of SkillsUSA, and sits as the chair for service projects for the Anchor Club. The Anchor Club is a club dedicated specifically to serving the community of Laurens County,Georgia by educating them on brain related injuries and how to prevent such injuries. Emily was also named 2019 Distinguished woman of Lauren County. With all her accolades and positions of leadership, Emily is intentional about weaving in her testimony and boldly sharing her faith.

While at TFC, Emily plans to study Secondary education and she is more than ready for what the Lord has in store for her. With her impressive performance and heartfelt acceptance of this award, we are ever so proud to announce Emily as our newest Future Scholar!

PROBE Fair

Each year OFTC hosts the PROBE Fair, where Georgia colleges gather to meet prospective students. WLHS students attended and took the opportunity to find out admission requirements for the schools they would like to attend.  The students were also able to discover tour dates, schedule visits, and gather a wide array of information about the schools.

Georgia Parent Survey

The Georgia Parent Survey is available and will be open until March 1, 2019. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. The Georgia Parent Survey link is posted below.

Report cards will be sent home on Tuesday, October 23, 2018.

School is Open

All schools now have all utilities restored and we will resume normal operating hours on Monday, October 15. 

School Closed on Friday

As a result of Hurricane Michael, Laurens County has suffered widespread damage including broken power poles, power lines and trees down blocking roadways, and the loss of power for more than 80% of our county.  Therefore, the Laurens County School System will be CLOSED on Friday, October 12, 2018.

Early Dismissal on Wednesday

Administrators with Laurens County Schools have just been provided the most recent weather updates from EMA and Homeland Security.  Severe winds and storms are anticipated to arrive in our area by 2:00 PM tomorrow, October 10. Therefore, the Laurens County School System will dismiss at 12 o’clock NOON on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. 

School Closed on Thursday

Governor Deal has issued an emergency declaration for 92 counties in Georgia, including Laurens County.  We have been closely monitoring this storm over the past 12 hours as central Georgia is in the direct path of Hurricane Michael with the eye of the storm scheduled to cross Dublin, GA early Thursday morning.  Therefore, the Laurens County School System will be CLOSED on Thursday, October 11, 2018.  We will continue to monitor the storm and any conditions that may impact school on Friday.

WLHS Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Coach Jody Pollock for being named WLHS Teacher of the Year by his peers. Coach Pollock is well respected by his peers and students. He has 17 years experience, teaches science, is the Assistant Coach of the WLHS Lady Raider Softball team, and was voted 'Funniest Teacher' by the 2019 seniors.

HB251 Laurens County School-to-School Transfer Requests

The Laurens County Board of Education, in compliance with House Bill 251 (HB251), has developed a process giving Laurens County parents/guardians the option to request that their children attend any Laurens County school, within the school system, based on space availability.  Information pertaining to the Laurens County School-to-School Transfer Request option is posted to the system web site, www.lcboe.net, and will include the implementation procedures, a preliminary list of schools, with available classroom space, and an application to request a transfer.  The FY19 application deadline is July 27, 2018.  For further information, please review the information listed under parent resourses top tab, posted to the Laurens County Board of Education website, or contact Mr. Kelland Waldrep at kellandwaldrep@lcboe.net or 478-272-4767.

HOPE REACH Scholarship

ATTENTION ALL BUSINESS PARTNERS. We are looking for area businesses to support the HOPE REACH Scholarship for the 2018-2019 school year. Each year, Laurens County can select up to three upcoming 8th graders to receive this honor. The school system is responsible for raising $1500 of the scholarship per student through partnerships with local businesses.The state will fund the remaining $8500 per student. In order for the student to receive the scholarship to pursue post-secondary options upon graduation, he/she must maintain acceptable grades, attendance, and behavior. If you are interested in helping us grow tomorrow's leaders, please complete the form and return by June 30, 2018. As always, thanks for your support.

Combat Bullying Tour of Schools

In observance of Bullying Prevention and Awareness Month, Laurens County schoos is hosting “The Combat Bullying Tour” featuring Mr. Willie Raines, of Reclaiming Ground Inc. To forward his message of bullying prevention and awareness, he uses feats of strength to promote a strong and inspiring message of unity in our community against bullying. Please join us on Tuesday, October 17, at 6:00 PM at the Old West Laurens Gym as we come together as a community to combat bullying in our schools. All community members are encouraged to attend this event.

School Cancellation

Laurens County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Friday, September 2. The East Laurens High School football game will be held on Saturday at 12:00 noon at Montgomery County. At this time, the West Laurens High School football game is still scheduled for Friday at 7:30 at West Laurens. Please check the Laurens County Schools Facebook page or website for the latest updates.

Centralized Registration Center

As of September 6, 2016, the Laurens County School System will open our centralized registration center at the O.W.L. (Old West Laurens High School) at 338 West Laurens School Road. Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Special Olympics Cancelled Due to Weather

Due to rain and thunderstorms forecasted for Friday, the local Special Olympics events have been cancelled.

Letterman jacket fitting will be held Wednesday, March 9th @ 11:15.  Payment in full can be made at fitting or students can order online anytime (www.neffco.com).  Students who turn in order forms with full payment at the fitting will not be charged sales taxes or shipping costs.

Move On When Ready

Parents of an upcoming high school student for the 2016-2017 school year have an opportunity to review information about Georgia’s Move Own When Ready dual-credit program. Laurens County SkillsUSA Chapters Attend Fall Leadership

SkillsUSA Chapters from East and West Laurens High School attended Fall Leadership Conference at Jekyll Island on October 22-24, 2015. SkillsUSA Georgia hosts a Fall Leadership Conference each year to train students and teachers in leadership skills that will allow them to go back to their school and lead their local chapters through a successful school year. SkillsUSA Georgia advisors were encouraged to bring their local officers and any other students interested in learning how to demonstrate their leadership abilities. This year’s event had 900 attendees from all over the state.  Students participated in sessions that guide them in developing team building, public speaking, communication and community service skills, just to name a few. While at the conference the students also participated in a STEAM race challenge where students from each chapter built a soap box derby style car and competed against other chapters.

Georgia has its very own free text service for parents of 4 and 5 years olds!  Thanks to the Georgia Department of Education and Stanford University, parents can receive tips, facts and resources to help get their child ready for kindergarten.  Joining is easy- parents just text "GAready4K" to 313131.

Georgia Schools' Parent Survey

State of Georgia mandates that a school must have its PARENTS complete an online climate survey.  It's that time of year and we NEED your help! The survey is below. Please click the link and take the survey for each child you have enrolled in an LCSS school. The survey should take no more than about ten minutes. If you do not have internet available at  home, please come into our school one day this week  before Thanksgiving holidays to complete the survey. The results of this survey impact our annual CCRPI score that replaced AYP. 2015-16 School Flu Campaign

This season we would like to help protect our student body from the flu by providing flu vaccinations during school hours. This week Laurens County Schools hosts an AdvancEd External Review. This review is part of our inaugural accreditation process. Education Summit at LCBOE

Congressman Rick Allen would like to invite parents, teachers, and faculty of all 12th District Schools to join him in a round-table discussion regarding upcoming education legislation. The summit will be held at the Laurens County Board of Education office on February 17, 2015 at 5:00 P.M. Click here for more details.

Superintendent-elect Woods Seeks Student Advisers

State School Superintendent-elect Richard Woods is accepting applications for the 2015 Student Advisory Council.

The members of the Student Advisory Council meet three times during the school year with the State School Superintendent to discuss how decisions made at the state level are affecting students throughout Georgia. Members are advisers and act as liaisons between the Department of Education and the students of Georgia. Superintendent-elect Woods will be conducting the meetings, which will also feature various DOE personnel providing further information.

"Meeting with students and getting their advice will be a top priority of mine as State School Superintendent," said Superintendent-elect Woods. "I am committed to making decisions that are in the best interests of our students, and hearing from them directly is how I can ensure that happens.”

All students in grades 7-12 are eligible to apply. Meetings will be held in February, March and early May (dates are subject to change). Applicants should be able to attend all meetings.

To be eligible for the Council, applications must be received by Friday, January 16, 2014

Raiders advance to the AAAA quarterfinals

The West Laurens Raiders defeated Stephens County High School this past Friday night 30-14 to advance to the Quarterfinals of the GHSA AAAA playoffs. The Raiders will travel to play the St. Pius X Golden Lions in Atlanta this Friday at 7:30 pm. Please make plans to travel and continue supporting our Raiders! Have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving!

Tickets will be sold on Wednesday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the West Laurens High School Gym. Per the GHSA: all tickets will be $12.00 (only babies in arms are admitted for free) and the only passes that will be accepted are GHSA or GAOA passes.

ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL DIRECTIONS TO HIGHWOODS PROPERTIES FOR SHUTTLE PARKING - FROM I-85

Parking is very limited at the school. The school's Athletic director says most fans use the shuttle service, so please plan accordingly.

Congratulations to the West Laurens High Competition Cheer team and coaches for their 6th place finish in the state finals on Saturday! 

Raiders advance to 2nd round of State Playoffs

The West Laurens Raiders defeated Bainbridge High School this past Friday night 23-14 in overtime to advance to the 2nd round of the GHSA AAAA playoffs. The Raiders will play host to Stephens County this Friday at 7:30pm. Please come out and support our Raiders!

HGRESA Banquet Rescheduled

Due to the predicted weather conditions, it is necessary for the Heart of Georgia RESA to reschedule the Academic Awards-Serving Learning Collaborative Event that was scheduled for Tuesday, April 29.  The new date is Monday, May 5th at 6:00 PM.  The event location will remain the same - DuBose Porter Building in Dublin.
