School Resumes on Thursday

Students and staff of Laurens County Schools will resume a normal schedule on January 18, 2018.

Schools Closed on Wednesday

Due to the impending inclement weather, the Laurens County School System will be closed for students on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.   Staff should plan on reporting at 10:00 AM.  However, each employee must use good judgement and exercise the highest level of caution when attempting to drive in questionable weather conditions.  We will continue to monitor the situation throughout the night and into the morning and will let you know if any additional changes are needed regarding tomorrow’s workday or Thursday’s schedule.

Christmas Holidays

Laurens County Schools will be closed for Christmas Holidays December 18, 2017 - January 1, 2018.

Staff members return to work on January 2, 2018.

Students return to school on January 3, 2018.

BOARD SCHEDULES MEETING TO “MEET THE FINALIST"

The Laurens County Board of Education has scheduled a meeting Wednesday, October 25 to give local citizens the opportunity to meet Dr. Dan Brigman, the finalist for the Laurens County School Superintendent.  The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the location will be at the old West Laurens High School library (Training Room #1) located at 338 West Laurens School Road in Dublin, Georgia.

In addition to meeting Dr. Brigman, there will be an opportunity for people to submit questions both to Dr. Brigman and the Board of Education members.

Anyone unable to attend the meeting can submit a question in advance at the Laurens County Board of Education.

School Closings (9/14/17) - Hurricane Irma

Laurens County Schools in Dublin, GA, will be closed for students and staff on Thursday, September 14, 2017.  As of noon today, many of our faculty, staff, and students' families remain without power to their homes; additionally, two of our schools remain open as Red Cross Evacuation Shelters.  

We expect that as Hurricane Irma evacuees are relocated from our schools later today, we will begin the dismantling and cleaning of our facilities so that we can resume normal operations as soon as possible. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.

Due to widespread power outages and damage from Hurricane Irma, as well as delays in the evacuation of our emergency shelters, Laurens County Schools in Dublin, GA will be closed on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. No students or staff should report to school or work.

Board Moves Forward With Superintendent Search

The Laurens County Board of Education continues to work on selecting a new Superintendent of Schools. Planning for the search began in June. The Board asked King-Cooper and Associates, a superintendent search firm, to serve as consultants for the search. The position was advertised with an application deadline of August 18, 2017, and information about the search has been available on the school system website. The Board also conducted an online survey that was completed by almost 600 community members and school district staff.

LCBOE Office Closed

The LCBOE office will be closed June 29 - July 5, 2017. The office will reopen on July 6, 2017 at 8:00 A.M.

Board Training

The Laurens County Board of Education will be meeting at 4:30 on June 6, 2017 for a board training conducted by Frank King of Georgia Leadership Associates. The training will be open to the public.

Budget Hearings

The Laurens County Board of Education has scheduled two public hearings to discuss the tentative FY18 budget.  The first hearing will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. at the Old West Laurens High School (OWL), 338 West Laurens School Road, Dublin, Georgia; and the second hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Office Building on Firetower Road, Dublin, Georgia.

The Spring Federal Programs Stakeholders meetings will be held May 18, 2017 at 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm at the O.W.L. We are seeking input from the different stakeholders of the district. Click HERE for a flyer concerning the meetings.

Combat Bullying Tour of Schools

In observance of Bullying Prevention and Awareness Month, Laurens County schoos is hosting “The Combat Bullying Tour” featuring Mr. Willie Raines, of Reclaiming Ground Inc. To forward his message of bullying prevention and awareness, he uses feats of strength to promote a strong and inspiring message of unity in our community against bullying. Please join us on Tuesday, October 17, at 6:00 PM at the Old West Laurens Gym as we come together as a community to combat bullying in our schools. All community members are encouraged to attend this event.

LCBOE Names Dan Brigman Superintendent Finalist

After a lengthy search that began in June, the Laurens County Board of Education has named Dr. Dan Brigman as the finalist for the Superintendent of Laurens County Schools. Dr. Brigman has twenty-four years of public education experience, and the past thirteen years has served as a superintendent. He has also been a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and central office administrator.

Laurens County Milestones End of Grade Growth Scores

Parents, the State of Georgia End of Grade Growth Score reports should have come home with your student on November 9, 2017. Students in grades 5-9 should have received this report. Solar Eclipse Early Dismissal

On August 21, 2017, the middle Georgia area will experience a solar eclipse at approximately 2:41 p.m. As a result, the Laurens County School System will release students early so all pupils will be home safely during the darkest hours of the event. Early release on August 21 will begin at 12:00 p.m. Prior to this event, teachers will conduct lessons on the eclipse so students can learn about this rare occurrence. Lunch schedules will be adjusted to accommodate the early release.

Destruction of Records

Destruction of Records: The Laurens County School System is reviewing old and inactive special education files for the purpose of destroying those that are no longer needed to provide services.  Records of students with disabilities who are 30 years old or older will be destroyed September 2017.  If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the records prior to destruction, you may call Cheryl Rector 478-272-4767 and arrange a time to pick up your special education records.  The deadline to request records is Friday, August 26, 2017 by 3 p.m.

The focus of all Title I programs is to help eligible students meet the same high academic achievement standards expected of all children, regardless of their socioeconomic status and background. School Closings - Hurricane Irma

Laurens County Schools in Dublin, Georgia, will be closed on Monday, September 11, 2017, and Tuesday, September 12, 2017, due to the approach of Hurricane Irma. Our four schools that serve as American Red Cross EVACUATION Centers are scheduled to be opened as evacuation shelters under the direction of the Red Cross and other state officials.

 

No students or staff should report to school or work; anyone who wishes to volunteer at a shelter should report to the Red Cross personnel at that facility.

New Traffic Routing

Parents and Staff: Eastside car rider traffic will enter and exit the campus from Ernest Stinson Road. There is a new 3 lane road coming into the car rider area. There are also 2 parking lots, a new canopy that connects the schools, and additional turning lanes. Please allow yourselves plenty of time, be aware of the new direction signage, and watch your speed in this new area. The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office is providing a resource officer and monitoring traffic. Thanks for your cooperation

Laurens County Schools Receives Grant Award

Laurens County Schools has been awarded $307,900.00 for Round 5 of the Connections for Classrooms Program. This grant money will be used to purchase chromebooks for grades K-2. The addition of these chromebooks will allow us to reach our goal of 1:1 student devices in grades K-12.

HOPE REACH Georgia

If you have an upcoming eighth grade student, your child may be eligible to receive a $10,000 scholarship to support post secondary education upon graduation from high school through HOPE REACH Georgia.  For more information, visit the following website for an application or contact the counselor at your child's school.  Priority will be given to those students that are eligible for free and reduced lunch. If you have not already filled out a Free and Reduced Lunch Application for this school year, this will need to be submitted along with your application.  All applications are due no later than May 25 to your child's school counselor. No late or incomplete applications will be considered.

HB251 Information

The Laurens County Board of Education, in compliance with House Bill 251 (HB251), has developed a process giving Laurens County parents/guardians the option to request that their children attend any Laurens County school, within the school system, based on space availability. Information pertaining to the Laurens County School-to-School Transfer Request option is posted to the system web site, www.lcboe.net, and will include the implementation procedures, a preliminary list of schools, with available classroom space, and an application to request a transfer. The FY18 application deadline is July 27, 2017. Student Registration for 2017-2018 School Year

Student registration for all schools in the Laurens County School System will be held July 10 - July 31 between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 3:30 P.M. Registration will be at the Laurens County Schools Student Service Center (Old West Laurens High School building) located at 338 West Laurens School Road, Dublin, GA 31021.

LAURENS COUNTY SCHOOLS BEGIN SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH

At the regular June board meeting, the Laurens County Board of Education approved King - Cooper and Associates to lead their superintendent search. This search for the next Superintendent of the Laurens County School System is now underway. On Tuesday, May 23, 2017, the board held their first planning session with a representative of King - Cooper and Associates, a Georgia firm that will assist the board with the search. MORE
