How America Pays for College 2016

More than a third of college costs (34%) were covered by scholarships in academic year 2015-16. That's just one of the findings of How America Pays for College 2016, the national study by Sallie Mae® and Ipsos.

As an educational company providing free programs and resources to schools and families, By Kids For Kids Co. (BKFK) is proud to work with Sallie Mae, the nation's saving, planning and paying for college company.

The national study reveals:

  • Scholarships and grants were the number one college funding source--the largest percentage of any resource in the last five years.
  • Nearly all families--98%--were taking steps to make college more affordable.
  • Fewer than half of families borrowed last year. Borrowing by the student covered 13% of college costs, down from 16% in 2014-15.
